What this is

You Choose Adventures is a collection of read-aloud stories where the child decides what happens next. Each story opens on a hand-picked page, then a storyteller continues it page by page, using the choices your child makes, their hero, their pet and their special item. Every story lasts seven pages.

How the stories are written

The first page of each of the 300 stories is prepared in advance. The following pages are written as your child plays, by an AI model running on Cloudflare. It is told to keep everything gentle and suitable for ages 5 to 9: no fighting, nothing scary for long, problems solved with kindness and cleverness. Its answers are checked before they are shown, and if anything looks wrong, a pre-written page is used instead. AI can still occasionally say something odd, so reading along is the best way to enjoy it.

The sliders

Before each story you can set how silly it is, how much peril it has, and how sophisticated the reading level is. The peril slider goes from “snug and safe” to “edge of your seat”. Even at its highest setting the storyteller is told to avoid graphic violence, gore, death and lasting harm, to keep the hero and friends safe, and to finish happily. The first page of each story is written in advance, so the sliders shape everything after it.

Read aloud

Every page has a “Read to me” link that uses your device’s own voice. Choices can also be picked with the number keys.

Privacy

There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking. The child’s name, hero, pet and place in a story are saved only in this browser. To write a page, the story so far and the hero details are sent to the storyteller. The site does not keep them. Clearing the site’s data in your browser removes everything saved on the device.
